Armed gang make away with Rs 5 million

MAHOTTARI, JUN 12 - An armed gang of dacoits made off with Rs 5 million from Gaushala region of Mahottari district on Wednesday afternoon.
The motorcycle-borne gang of five looted the amount from a Jeep (Na 2 Cha 2722) at Nawarajpur area. They had come in two motorbikes.
The amount was withdrawn from Janakpur-based Nepal Rastra Bank and was being taken to the Ramnagar-based Sugar Mill for paying a sugar farmer of the Mill.
It has been learnt that Nepal Rastra Bank's senior assistant Nawal Kishore Thakur, the driver and one un-armed security guard of the Bank were inside the vehicle when it was ransacked.
Police inspector Deepak Giri said that the gang beat up the security guard before making away with the amount. Mobile sets were also taken away by the dacoits, police said.
Police have been investigating the incident that took place some 45 kilometers north from the district headquarters.
