Army blank Boys Union 3-0 to enter Gurkha Cup final

KATHMANDU, JUN 13 -
Nepal Army Club stormed into the final of the Gurkha Cup after defeating Boys Union Club 3-0 at the Dasharath stadium on Wednesday.
Raju Nepali put Army in front in the first half before Ram Kumar Bishwas and Naresh Meche struck in the second half to complete a convincing victory over Boys Union, who made a comeback into the top flight after two seasons.
Army enjoyed the upper hand over Boys Union, especially in the second half as Boys Union succumbed under the pressure, failing to match the physical superiority of the departmental side. A sloppy mistake from Boys Union custodian Raju Yogi cost them a goal and their desperate search for an equaliser exposed their defence wide open.
Ruing Army’s missed opportunities, coach Yogambar Suwal said that his players did not play to their potential.  “We did not play in the desired speed in the first half as I had expected but we improved in the second half,” he said.
Army broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, punishing the Yogi’s horrific error. Nepali fancied his chances from the edge of the box which flew straight toward Yogi but the ball slipped between his legs and crossed the goal line to his dismay.
Bishwas doubled Army’s tally in the 55th minute when he headed home after Kamal Khawas released a long cross from the left flank inside the area which Bishwas headed above Yogi to the back of the net.
Meche slammed past Yogi in the 70th minute after he had found the latter as his only hurdle.  Boys Union coach, Bijaya Maharjan lamented his team bowing out of the competition.
“My players performed well in the first half but their game play dwindled in the second.”
