Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday sent a congratulatory message to the new Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, while expressing the Kingdom’s desire to strengthen its relations with its GCC neighbor.
“We are confident that you would continue the efforts made by your father for the progress and prosperity of Qatar and its people,” King Abdullah said in a cable to Sheikh Tamim.
Crown Prince Salman sent similar greetings to the new Qatari ruler.
Sheikh Tamim is expected to address the nation today, an official in Doha said, after which he is expected to carry out a major cabinet reshuffle.
According to the World Bank, Qatar recorded Gross Domestic Product of $ 173 billion in 2011, while average per capita income in 2012 stood at 98,000 euros ($ 128,811).
